Corporate Social Responsibility at KSS
Having previously been successful in uplifting the skills of learners in numerous learnership programs (e.g. ITBLP), KSS has now aligned itself with CISCO’s GTAP (Global Talent Acceleration Program). This program is aimed at building a base of networking specialists in the SA market.
KSS has been committed to the asset, employment and social equity principles of black economic empowerment (BEE) since its inception in March 2000 and this commitment is reflected in its employment profile, share equity and community involvement.
Developing Skills for the South African Market
The KSS Corporate Responsibility programme is an example of a programme that benefits all participants:
- The programme provides KSS and the local South African market with critical IT skills - a key requirement when considering the dearth of skilled ICT professionals.
- In particular the programme is producing individuals with valuable Cisco skills. As a Cisco Silver Certified Partner in South Africa, KSS is particularly aware of the lack of Cisco qualified and experienced professionals in routing, switching, security and voice environments.
- KSS needs junior engineers on entry-level work requirements within projects where senior engineers are perhaps overqualified for the work. This programme provides KSS with access to these junior engineers.
- The students are provided with a programme designed to ensure a high success rate and put them on the road to a successful career in the ICT industry.
CISCO’s GTAP (Global Talent Acceleration Program)
The GTAP project focuses on training candidates through the full Cisco certification path from CCNA up to the written CCIE and ALL costs around training & recruitment will be covered by Cisco as part of their investment in South Africa. The same curriculum at your own cost for this kind of training plan would cost you in the region of R150k per person.
Entry criteria being applied to both the partner employees being nominated as well as new entrants looking for sponsorship are;
- PDI candidates only
- South African citizens only
- Completed Tertiary Qualification in IT (preferably at least a 2 year course or better)
- Not more than 3 years working experience
- An interest in and/or aptitude for the field of IT Networking
Training for candidates who meet the entry requirements stated above is full time and last between 15-18 weeks.
Training will cover any one of 3 areas:-
- The Cisco Voice Professional training will furnish delegates with advance knowledge and skills required to integrate a Cisco Unified Communication solution into underlying network architectures.
Furthermore, delegates will acquire a set of skills to implement, operate, configure, and troubleshoot a converged IP network. Successful graduates could help create a telephony solution that is transparent, scalable, and manageable. The curriculum focuses on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, quality of service (QoS), gateways, gatekeepers, IP phones, voice applications, and utilities on Cisco routers, Cisco Catalyst switches, Deploying Cisco Unified Contact Center Express and administer and manage Cisco Unity Connection.
- The Cisco Security Professional training will furnish successful graduates with advanced knowledge and skills to secure Cisco networks.
Furthermore, delegates will acquire the skills required to secure and manage network infrastructures to protect productivity, mitigate threats, and reduce costs. The curriculum emphasizes Cisco Router IOS (ISR) and Catalyst Switch security features, Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), secure VPN connectivity, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Cisco Security Agent (CSA), Security Enterprise and Device Management, Network Admission Control (NAC) as well as techniques to optimize these technologies in a single, integrated network security solution.
- The Cisco Data Center Networking Professional training will furnish successful graduates with advanced knowledge to design, install and support a data center networking and storage solution. Additionally, delegates will have the knowledge of implementing, integrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining Cisco Data Center Application Services products in a highly scalable, efficient, and high-performance Data Center Application Services solution that is based on Cisco's Data Center Architecture.
Furthermore, delegates will understand how to:
- Deploy and optimize the features and benefits of the Cisco MDS 9000 Series Multilayer Directors and Switches, Cisco MDS 9509 Director Switch, Cisco 9216 Fabric Switch, and Cisco MDS 9120 products to provide fast and accurate resolution to network installation and customer service issues.
- Implement the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) in an enterprise data center routing and switching infrastructure with the next-generation Cisco Nexus product family.
- Deploy and optimize the features and benefits of the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches, Cisco 4948 Switches, and Cisco Catalyst Blade Switches to provide fast and accurate resolution to network installation and customer service issues.
